Field Trip Friday!

The field trip was so much fun! First, we went to the Confederate Cemetery in Marion.

They have markers for 170 unknown soldiers (they know who they are, just not which one was which)...

and the marker of one named soldier.

The next place we went to was the Congregation Beth Israel Cemetery. My friend Susan said that in the Jewish faith it is traditional to leave a stone on the marker of family and friends. Some people leave carved stones with messages...

And some leave regular old stones.

Some even leave gold stones.

We ended our day at Rose Hill cemetery, famous for being the resting place of the Gypsy Queen.

And Gypsy King

People leave all kinds of things for the family to pay tribute. Fruit and beads are traditional (we left oranges and apples) but there were rocks, beads, fruit, glass rocks, and even beer bottles! There were even small toys left on the marker of a baby.
